Plastic to Oil prototype 1st. test.

Hello everyone,

well never a dull moment here at C4C. and this weekend has seen the first test of the Plastic to Oil machine prototype. The machine has been made as basic as possible in keeping with our ethos of easily re-produceable solutions. a 25L Cooking oil drum is the core of the prototype and despite your thinking these are easy to come by, as it turns out the recent interest in re-using cooking oil for Diesel Engines has made these much sought after. So if anyone knows of a source of these drums please acquire them and get them to us.

The machines test ran well initially and as you can see in the photo was heated by simply a wood fire. After an hour of heating the solids in the chamber were liquefied and were boiling nicely, producing a gas which was being condensed into oil. ( Composition yet to be tested. )

However there was a gas leak at the mounting point to the lid as you can see in the photo and gasses / Oil was being lost. So, I thought i would be able to fix this and continue the experiment. Not so, upon removing the lid the chamber began to quickly catch on fire and did so each time the lid was removed, so hoping that i might be able to at least recover more than the 20 ml that had accumulated already i returned the Prototype to the Heat source.

Another mistake, after about 30 seconds there was a flash in the chamber which blew gasses through the system at high speed and flushed all the recovered oil onto the floor. Additionally the lid to the chamber no longer seals. So until i purchase another drum, the tests are on hold.

Never the less this was a success, oil was recovered and the device was of the most basic construction. Most encouraging and clearly indicating that this may well be one simple and effective way of the many we can employ to turn back the Tide of plastic in our Oceans.
