Charter 4
Conservation
The Charter's Intentions
The Beginning.
In 2013 many like minded people came together to raise awareness about the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by the Indonesian Military in West Papua. It was during this Freedom Flotilla for West Papua that i realized the potential of salvaging and re-purposing the countless yachts that were languishing on neglected moorings and in boatyards up and down our coast.
After the flotilla i set about establishing an organization with the intention of obtaining one of these yachts to repair and prepare it to undertake environmental and scientific voyages seeking to inspire and assist others to do the same.
Having long been aware of the potential for Plastics to Fuel to be a real game changer, the recent announcement by Dr. Lavers from the University of Tasmania informing the world of the situation on Henderson Island, which she found to be one of the most highly plastic polluted places on earth, had a galvanising effect and i began to immediately search for a yacht which could carry a easy to produce basic plastics to fuel machine to that remote island to demonstrate how this simple process could make a real change for the better.
The Yacht
After a couple of false starts we acquired the 12m steel yacht we are now preparing for this, our first major project, the Trans Pacific Expedition Against Plastic. Armageddon Ready is a 12m steel Center Console Sloop which we are fitting out to complete the long blue water passages in some of the potentially roughest seas on the planet.
Currently we are about half way through the repairs and re-fit which will require at least another 10k au. Once able to put to sea we will move " the Ready " from her current location in Port Stephens NSW Aust. to The Great Barrier Reef, to begin Training trials and public awareness of our objectives.
Atarangi in her current location on the hard in Yamba NSW Aust..
